1. How is the software set up?
It is very easy to set up and easy to use, with a supporting manual. The software will configure itself when first loaded by detecting your network setup.

2. What sort of configuartion tools do I get with Inteliguard?
There are 3 parts to Inteliguard.
1 Proxy Monitor: Adjust the configuration of the proxy to function with the network
2 Filter Tool: Allows you to add and ban sites
3 Access Tool: Allows and restricts access

3. Does Inteliguard sit on a server?
For a small amount of machines like 30 then the software can be installed on a workstation if there isn’t a server available. Anymore than 30 it would be more effective working from a server.

4. How does AI (artificial inteligence) work?
URL’s are filtered using advanced neural networks, which is software that emulates the brains ability to learn, so the software has been trained to spot inappropriate material very accurately. So the URL may look innocent but the content maybe unsuitable. Filtering is done page by page as requested.

5. What if a websites content changes over time, will Inteliguard still protect my network?
Filtering software that is going off a banned site list will judge a site and then place it into a category. This doesn’t change quickly to reflect the changes in the sites content. Inteliguard judges the site each time, so if the content of a previously clean web site has become inappropriate this will be detected.

6. Does Inteliguard support PIC’s self censorship system?
Yes, Inteliguard supports all PIC self censorship systems and somes with seven systems in the standard installation. The Rsaci and ICRA censorship systems are used as default.

7. Caching
Especially useful in a classroom situation where teachers are directing students to a particular web site, the site only has to be downloaded once massively reducing the load on the internet connection. Also includes smart caching which means it can cache internet files that other proxies would not normally attempt to store maximizing efficiency even further.

8. Logging features
Logs record times, site visited, the name of the machine that requested the site (taken from their windows login or IP address where no Windows login is available e.g on UNIX workstations) and whether the site was banned or not. Log data can also be transferred to third party applications such as Excel, Access or Word.

9. Is Inteliguard one of those simple keyword filters that I've been hearing bad things about?
No, Inteliguard is far more sophisticated. The Artificial Intelligence that Inteliguard uses analyses the website URL, the entire textual content of the site, any metatags (keywords specified in websites to ensure that they appear in given searches on search engines) and links from that site, then makes a judgement regarding the site's content based on all of this data using state of the art analysis techniques. This means the filters will accurately ban sites containing inappropriate content , but you don't need to worry about sites about Sussex being banned if you are filtering sex content.

10. What size of network is Inteliguard intended for?
Inteliguard is a completely scalable solution that can run on high bandwidth ISPs, yet will still remain fast and efficient on small networks of less than 20 machines with low bandwidth connections, so whatever your requirements there is an Inteliguard solution to suit you. Inteliguard supports both Windows and Linux based systems.

11. Will I need to buy proxy software to use with Inteliguard?
No, Inteliguard includes a fully featured and integrated, industrial calibre caching proxy with smart caching technology, making Inteliguard one of the fastest and most efficient proxies on the market.

12. Will I need another computer to run Inteliguard on?
This depends on your current network configuration. If you already use a proxy, you will already have a gateway machine set up, you can simply replace your existing proxy software with Inteliguard. If you don't use a proxy at the moment, you will need to set up a gateway computer to run Inteliguard on (instructions on how to do this are included in the product documentation). If IT resources are at premium in your organisation, you can still use the gateway computer as a normal workstation whilst Inteliguard runs unobtrusively in the background. Inteliguard is also fully compatible with Peer-to-Peer networks.

13. Do I need to install extra software on client machines or reconfigure them to use Inteliguard?
No extra software needs to be installed on client machines on a network running Inteliguard, all functions are performed on the gateway computer. The only reconfiguration you need to do is to set up client web browsers to access the web via a proxy, this is a simple one stage process that doesn't require a reboot (full instructions on reconfiguring popular browsers to run through a proxy are provided in the Inteliguard documentation).

14. Do I need to be a computer networking expert to install and use Inteliguard?
No, the installation procedure includes an automatic configuration stage that will scan your network and automatically detect the correct settings required for it to run correctly and configure itself appropriately. Once installed, the user interface has been designed from the outset to make using Inteliguard easy for non expert staff and if you do have problems, you can rely on our technical support team (whose services are provided free for the first year) to help you.

15. Will using proxy software slow-down my network or limit my network's Internet access to HTTP and FTP?
No, the proxy includes full support for all common Internet protocols (including HTTP, Secure HTTP, FTP, NNTP, SMTP and POP3). User definable protocols (UDP and TCP) and application definable protocols (SOCKS5) are also fully supported. This means that any of the specialist internet applications that you can use through a direct internet connection (such as chat clients and online games) can still be used through Inteliguard should the network administrator choose to allow it. Filtering is fast and does not significantly impact on web performance, combined with the caching proxy, many clients will find that their internet speed is actually faster with Inteliguard than with no filtering/proxy at all. Inteliguard's filtering is fast enough to check sites each time they are downloaded.

16. How hard is it for network users to tamper with Inteliguard in order to circumvent filtering?
Almost impossible. Firstly there is no software installed on any client computers, so no tampering can be attempted locally, so a user would have to attempt to gain access to the gateway computer somehow. Even if an unauthorised user does manage to circumvent your network security and gain access to the gateway machine either physically or remotely, Inteliguard is protected by ultra-secure, multi-level passwords that ensure only network administrators and other authorised personnel can access and reconfigure Inteliguard. Just because you perform filtering on site does not mean it has to be any less secure.

17. Will Inteliguard filtering slow down my network's Internet access?
Not significantly. Despite performing sophisticated analysis of all web content being downloaded onto a network, the efficient, robust, multi-threaded architecture of the filtering system means that there is very little impact on access speed. Combine this with the bandwidth you save by utilising a caching proxy and many clients will find that their web access is actually faster using Inteliguard than it is with an unproxied connection. And remember, this is before taking into account the bandwidth that you save when your users are no longer slowing down your connection accessing non productive web content.

18. How do I keep Inteliguard up to date?
NWT Internet run an update server that is accessed automatically by your Inteliguard installation on a weekly basis in order to download updates. These updates not only include updated filtering data to ensure that your filtering performance remains optimal, but will also automatically incorporate the additional features which are constantly being developed by the Inteliguard team. If you don't want to wait a week to get a new update, you can also force Inteliguard to check for new updates whenever you like. This service is provided to all clients who take up Inteliguard support (provided free of charge for the first year) in addition to top quality technical support.
